ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has admitted that he called on Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at the GHQ in Rawalpindi last week, a private TV channel reported on Tuesday.
Taking to reporters, the Punjab CM said he would neither deny nor confirm his meeting with Gen Kayani, saying, “Such meetings are a routine matter.”
He said the PML-N was not running away from the by-elections, adding that the Election Commission had not taken the Punjab government into confidence before announcing the schedule.
He said the PML-N was not afraid of contesting by-polls.
He said, “According to intelligence reports, terrorists can target the prime minister, Mian Nawaz Sharif or any other political leader (s).” Shahbaz said, “No man or a party, rather only the government can take action against Musharraf under Article 6,” he added. He said the PML-N would finalise the name of its candidate for NA-55 Rawalpindi up on Nawaz’s return. irfan bukhari/daily times monitor
