ISLAMABAD - The workers of Capital Development Authority’s Mazdoor Union Saturday protested and blocked
Islamabad Highway Zero for about three hours against the aerial firing and snatching of ballot boxes by the
workers of rival group in referendum.
A large number of workers of Mazdoor Union attended the protest demonstration. They were chanting slogans
against Pakistan Peoples Party as they alleged that the brother of Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Leader of the House
in Senate, was involved in the said incident and was backing their rival group, Employees Federation.
According to them (protestors) PPP Islamabad President Babar Minhas along with the brother of Senator Syed
Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and others opened firing at the booth and injured one person of CDA labour union at
G-8 Markaz.
The protesters told TheNation that brother of Nayyar Bukhari and some others people also entered the polling
booths situated in G-6 and F-8 where they tried to snatch the polling boxes.
It may be mentioned here that today (Saturday) was the referendum for workers’ union of CDA.
The protesters demanded of the police and capital administration to lodge First Information Report (FIR) against
Nayyar Bokhari’s brother Sibti Shah, Baber Minhas and PPP lady worker Gulzari Bibi.
Casualty Medical Officer of Pakistan Institute of Medical Institute told TheNation that one man with gunshot injury
was brought to the hospital. However, the police spokesman denied the killing and causality in the case.
Later, addressing the gathering Ch Yasin nominated Secretary General of Mazdoor Unions said that the
government should take notice of this incident. He said PPP is a political party but after Saturday’s incident it is
more political.
He further said, we (Mazdoor Union) are not political party but work only for the interest of labourers. This is very
sad that the government supported the labour party in the referendum and used all-out resources for its victory,
he added.
He said after the announcement of the referendum result they would prepare future strategy by consulting
workers and give time to the government to take action against the culprits, otherwise, warned that they would
stage sit-in in front of Supreme Court for justice.
