ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Thursday visited the training area in Lahore where he met the troops busy in military training.

The COAS was briefed in detail by the field commanders on training matters. He lauded the operational preparedness and training standards of the troops.

Addressing the garrison officers, the COAS slammed the suicide attack in Lahore on Wednesday where besides policemen, five defence personnel, including a lieutenant colonel, embraced martyrdom.

The COAS said: “Pakistan will not be terrorised; we will Inshallah succeed.” He reiterated the firm resolve of the Army to defeat the destabilising forces that were out to harm the country.

He lauded the morale, determination and professionalism of the troops, who were fighting terrorism and extremism in Swat and elsewhere in the country.

He also lauded the sacrifices rendered by troops in Swat during the Operation Rah-e-Raast, where over 90 soldiers had embraced martyrdom and 279 were injured. Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ijaz Ahmed Bakhshi accompanied the COAS during his visit.
