KARACHI: The Sindh Secretariat Employees Cooperative Housing Society (SSECHS) has demanded that the government help them recover their land from the land mafia. The society stated this in a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday. The SSECHS was registered in 1970 in Scheme 33 with the registration number K670, they revealed, adding that the SSECHS paid Rs 1.694 million to the Revenue Department for Sector 6A (1), that spreads over 18 acres and 7A (123), that stretches over 32 acres. Apart from this they also paid Rs 4.840 million to the department for external development, however, the development work is progressing at a very slow pace in the society.

The land mafia had stolen dirt from the six-acre plot creating a 13-feet ditch in the area, they said, adding that after the incident, they decided to construct a boundary wall around the society. “We had hardly constructed 90 percent of the boundary wall when the land mafia destroyed it,” they said. “When we tried to stop them, they said they had the support of higher officials.” The land grabbers deputed armed guards around the broken wall and grabbed the society’s land, they revealed. ppi
