Monday, April 06, 2015 - Islamabad—The Ministry of Housing and Works is in the process of launching 10 different housing schemes through Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation to overcome deficiency of housing units in the country.

In addition, the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) have already launched two schemes and is also in the process to launch four more housing schemes.

According to the ministry sources, it was taking steps to overcome deficiency of housing units in the country through its attached departments and main among them was a comprehensive Prime Minister’s Housing Programme (2013-18) which includes construction of 1000 clusters of 500 houses each for low-income families all over the country.

This project will ensure cost-effective access to credit for housing and the government will be picking up a portion of the financing cost on behalf of the borrower over and above 8 per cent.

The said Prime Minister’s Housing Programme is carried out by by Apna Ghar Limited (APL)/National Housing Authority (NHA).

Moreover, the Prime Minister had constituted a steering committee under the chairmanship of Federal Finance Minister and Minister for Housing and Works is its Vice Chairman to oversee the scheme.

The committee has completed initial planning work and housing designs and models while land has been identified by the provinces at several locations. Now authorities are in a position to initiate launching of projects.

The other schemes launched by the government during last two years were the housing scheme at Bhara Kahu, Zone-IV, Islamabad for Federal Government Employees and other specified groups launched by Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation.

The other was Life Style Residency apartments in G-13, Islamabad on public private partnership with 75 per cent for Federal Government Employees and other specified groups and 25 percent for general public.

The Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation is pursuing both projects vigorously. Allotments to the eligible members will be made accordingly
