Dilapidated airport road irks commuters

RAWALPINDI: The dilapidated road from Flying Club to Koral Chowk, which leads to the city airport, is causing trouble for commuters. The airport road has caved in from the edges and developed potholes, while the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye towards the situation despite the movement of VVIPs on the route. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) receive commercialisation fee from the areas, besides the fines against illegal construction of buildings, but reportedly does not have enough funds to get on with the repair work. When contacted, RDA Director General Chaudhry Naseer Ahmad said they wrote to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) regarding the repair of the road, adding that owing to lack of funds, the RDA was not in a position to repair it. “The road could be constructed only if the government provides funds for the repair. Otherwise, its reconstruction will be considered in next fiscal year’s development projects,” he said. online
