KARACHI: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) weekly inflation surged by 22.56 percent in the week ended on January 29, 2009 over the same week of previous year. However it eased a bit by registering 0.07 percent decline during the week against the preceding week of January 2009, Federal Bureau of Statistics reported on Friday. The income group of Rs 5001 to Rs 12,000 suffered more due to the inflation with the SPI going up by 23.46 percent for this group during the period under review. The income basket of Rs 3001 to Rs 5000 witnessed 22.98 percent increase in SPI inflation followed by 22.53 percent for the income group upto Rs 3000. staff report.
