Building authority plan sent for nod

LAHORE, Aug 4: The proposal to establish a building control authority for regulating the construction activities in the provincial metropolis has been submitted to the Punjab government for approval.

This was stated at a meeting held here at LDA Plaza to review proposed amendments to the LDA Act 1975 on Saturday.
The meeting was presided over by Senator Pervaiz Rashid and attended among others by MNA Khwaja Saad Rafique, MPA Hafiz
Mian Muhammad Nauman, LDA chairman Noorul Amin Mengal and DG Ahad Khan Cheema.

The officials said the departments concerned mainly the CDGL, the LDA and local government were taken on board to discuss roles and responsibilities of the new building control authority. They said such an authority would be introduced in all divisions of Punjab.

The meeting proposed that due to rapid expansion of Sheikhupura, Lahore and Kasur, a regional planning authority was required for chalking out development plans for physical infrastructure as well as provision of basic amenities of life such as potable water, sewerage and sanitation, housing, education, health and other facilities.

The meeting was told that the LDA Act was promulgated in 1975 in order to improve the quality of life, establish an integrated metropolitan and regional development authority and to continue the process of planning and development. Since then no major amendment has been made to the LDA Act to meet the changing requirements and challenges.

The officials said it was the dire need to expand the LDA’s jurisdiction from city district to division level. TRANSFERS: LDA DG Ahad Khan Cheema ordered transfer of three directors on Saturday.

LDA Director (Education) Muhammad Asad Ameer has been transferred and directed to report to the Directorate of Administration, Director Rana Tikka Khan (awaiting posting) has been posted Director Education and Director Rana Yaqoob has been posted director (vice chairman’s office). Jamshed Siddiqui, PSO to the LDA chairman, has been relieved of the additional charge of the post.

Meanwhile, Additional Director General (HQ) Maryam Kiyani has posted Rehan Akbar Khwaja (awaiting posting) in the Directorate of Recovery as assistant director.
