Lahore—Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmed Hassan has said that reforms of fundamental nature are being introduced in the Urban Transport Sector for provision of efficient and affordable transport facilities to the general public. LTC will provide 575 buses of international standard in Lahore. 100 buses will be available on the roads of Lahore from China in the last week of next month.

Transparent mechanism has been evolved for evaluating the technical standards of these buses.He said that the visit of the delegation headed by the Chief Minister Punjab to Turkey proved very successful. Turkey will extend all possible assistance in Bus Rapid Transit project, electronic ticketing and other sectors of social development.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting Board of Directors of LTC in Chief Minister Secretariat here on Tuesday. Vice Chairman Mehar Ishatiq, Directors of the Board Yawar Irfan, Ashan Chughtai, Javed Masood, Secretary Transport Capt® Muhammad Yousaf was present in the meeting. General Mangers of LTC and Senior Officer of other department also attended the meeting.

Chairman LTC has said that Govt. of the Punjab filed a petition in Supreme Court for the uninterrupted supply of CNG to the public transport. He said that promotion of CNG in public transport is the cardinal feature of LTC. He said that Federal Government should take immediate measures for provision of CNG to public transport on priority basis.

He urged the Federal Government to announce exemption from Load Shedding of CNG for public transport. He said that areas have been identified where CNG Stations will be upgraded order to provide CNG through high pressure technology. He said that detailed meetings were held with the President and Prime Minister and Mayor of Istanbul. He said that Turkish companies are taking keen interest in the social development projects of Punjab.

He said that construction of first phase of Bus Rapid Transit from General Hospital to Canal will be started in the end of next month. He said that Bus Rapid Transit project will proved to be a mile stone in providing efficient and modernized transport facilities to the people of Lahore.
