When the clock struck 12…
Lahore - As the clock struck 12, locals had already come out on main streets of the metropolis. People were seen celebrating New Year’s arrival in various ways. Some had family reunions, some headed towards the hotels, some stayed home and enjoyed watching TV while others hit the dance floor.
Police had been deployed on all the major arties of the city. Security was beefed up and barricades were installed on all main roads; Gulberg Main Boulevard, Jail Road, Mall road, Main Boulevard Defence. As predicted, traffic disorder was witnessed as boys were seen dancing on the roads while blocking them. Families arranged get-togethers, dinners and movie shows at their houses while other dinned out.
Ahmad Umer said he had to drop his plan of going out with his family and came back from midway when he witnessed one-wheeling. He said law enforcement agencies could not control aerial firing and one-wheeling. Abrar, a citizen, said the trend was changing as now people preferred to have indoor activities. He said that this time the police took control of the city well before midnight, and many remained in their homes.
