ISLAMABAD: Like the other parts of the world, Christian community in Pakistan will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on Saturday, with zeal and fervour.

Christian community illuminated their homes and churches while shopping remained at peak on Friday. Almost all the churches have been decorated with colourful lights and illuminated Christmas Trees.

Special Dua would be offered for prosperity of the country.

Different programs and ceremonies were already being organized in the areas where Christians are living in majority. Cake cutting ceremonies are also being arranged by prominent political figures are participating in these ceremonies.

All education institutions run by the churches have started organising various programmes like tableau and carols to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The youth has started composing songs in connection with the Christmas Eve.

“We started Christmas preparations at the outset of December by organising get-to-gathers and exchanging Christmas gifts and cards,” said Pervez Iqbal.

Another important ritual of the Christmas celebrations is decorating Christmas tree to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus also known as Father Christmas.

Wafa said the Christmas tree was a symbol of happiness and an important part of Christmas, adding that Christmas promoted brotherhood and love.

“Preparations began during the mid of December and we have already started sending invitations to friends and relatives,” Arif said. He said the shoppers were being overcharged, adding, the government should take stern action against those taking advantage of Christmas.

Almost there are 2.3 million Christians in Pakistan out of which 48 percent are Protestants and 52 percent are Catholics.
