LAHORE - Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board, Asif Hashmi has said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani showed political sagacity and succeeded in keeping the issue of General Kayani’s extension non-controversial
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he alleged that certain political forces were bent upon creating rifts among state institutions to pave the way for political instability in the country.
“They also wanted to make the issue of General Kayani’s extension controversial, but timely decision by PM Gilani has thwarted their attempt at destabilisation the democratic process”, he observed. The prime minister has also put to rest all speculations regarding extension in tenure of the army chief by taking this vital decision at appropriate time in consultation with the political allies.
Hashmi said that credit also went to Prime Minister Gilani for developing national consensus over contentious issues of NFC award and 18th amendment.
It is due to his policy of reconciliation and tolerance that PM Gilani is widely respected not only within the PPP, but also in opposition circles, he concluded.
