CDA to spend Rs.171 million for parks uplift
Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) would spend around Rs.171 million for uplift of park across the federal capital to keep residents enjoying the recreational facilities besides protecting the environmental beauty of the city, said Chairman CDA, Syed Tahir Shahbaz.

“Though a lot of parks have been developed in Islamabad, required attention was not paid for their maintenance and uplift. The CDA would now carry out the task before these facilities lose their attraction and utility,” he said addressing the prize distribution ceremony of Traveling Nature Carnival – 2013 organized by World Wide Fund for nature (WWF – Pakistan) and Indus Motor Company (IMC) Toyota here.

He said that CDA was developing a mega park in Sector G-13 by spending millions of rupees to provide residents of the area with entertaining facilities with natural look.

The park is being developed along Kashmir Highway that would also help contain the encroachments swelling in the area, adding residents of the Sectors had also been pressing the CDA for the purpose.

He said the park would be adorned with natural landscape to be developed by using the stonework as the area was also rich of natural stones. Besides, the park would also be equipped with all sports facilities, kids play areas, jogging tracks and fountains to provide soothing moments to the visitors.

Syed Tahir Shahbaz lauded the holding of nature carnival and commented that the uniqueness of Islamabad’s beauty lies in its green character that needs to be protected at any cost because the giant of pollution posed serious threats to it.

The natural carnival attracted hundreds of the visitors including students from around 100 schools, five colleges and 10 leading universities from public and private sectors those also 3D models making competition on various environmental themes.

The carnival was aimed at creating awareness among the residents particularly the youngsters on environmental protection and climate change and eliminating pollution from the city. The themes selected for the models included ‘Solid Waste Management’, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle,’ Marine Conservation’, ‘Save Forest,’ ‘Save Water’, ‘Converting Waste to Energy,’ ‘Reducing Water’, Energy and Carbon Footprint’, ‘Water and Sanitation’ and ‘Green Economy’.

Several other interactive and educational activities also featured the carnival including environment-oriented games, puppet shows, musical performances and various other competitions including art and quiz competitions.

Chairman CDA, Syed Tahir Shahbaz distributed WWF branded shields, trophies and certificates among the winner students.
