Lahore: Plea against delay in completion of Mughalpura underpass - Naveed Yaseen - 11-15-2009 06:15 AM

A constitutional petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court, challenging the delay in construction of Mughalpura underpass and overhead bridge.

The petition was filed by Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate, stating that the construction of the overhead bridge and underpass was to be completed by the end of September 2009 but the construction had not been completed so far.

He stated in his petition that the Punjab chief minister had promised to open underpass and overhead bridge for public by November 14 but the promise was not fulfilled.

The petitioner stated that the health of thousands of residents of the localities was in danger due to serious environmental threats as no pre-cautionary measures were taken at the time of construction.

He said no alternative traffic plan was evolved while garbage and sand was left open in the air, badly affecting people respiratory system and could cause other serious skin diseases.

He requested the court to issue directions to the authorities concerned for early completion of the Mughalpura underpass and overhead bridge by complying with international and local code and standards of construction.
