PPP Punjab to recommend Musharraf’s trial under Article 6 - Naveed Yaseen - 11-12-2009 05:44 AM

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Parliamentary Party has announced that it will recommend proceedings against former president Gen ® Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution, Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, Riaz said Musharraf’s wrong policies had caused lawlessness and boosted terrorism in the country, adding, “He cannot cover up his wrongdoings by levelling baseless allegations against President Asif Ali Zardari.” He said the people would not allow any effort to defame the democratically elected president of Pakistan. The senior minister said Musharraf had reflected his negative personality and dug his own grave by maligning the PPP, adding that he would have to face its consequences.

To a question, Riaz said the PPP would move a joint motion against Musharraf in the Punjab Assembly with the consent of its allies. He said the parliamentary party had fulfilled its moral and democratic responsibility by moving against the former dictator. He said Musharraf had started a negative campaign against Zardari right after getting summons from the United Nations in connection with the Benazir Bhutto murder investigations, but he would not succeed in the propaganda. He said such tactics would not save him, adding that the nation would never spare Musharraf for compromising the interests of the country for personal petty gains.
