PESHAWAR: Commissioner Peshawar Muhammad Azam Khan Monday directed the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to immediately take the possession of 188-kanal land allotted for the establishment of SOS Village, Edward High School and Mental Hospital in the provincial metropolis.

The directives were issued at a meeting convened on Monday to review progress on various uplift projects, particularly road infrastructure. Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development Hifzur Rehman, Political Agent of Khyber Agency Shafirullah Khan, Director General PDA Qazi Muhammad Laiq and other officials attended the meeting.

The provincial government had purchased the land for the establishment of the aforementioned projects in Peshawar a few years back, but the PDA being the executing agency could not take the possession of the land. Now all the three projects have been re-located to Hayatabad, where land allotted for the NWFP Assembly building would be utilized for the same, said an official.

The commissioner took notice of the PDA’s inability to take possession of the land, payment for which had already been made, and directed the PDA director general to immediately acquire the land.

Director General PDA was also directed to construct service roads and green belts along both sides of the Ring Road and take steps for regulating traffic plying on the road. The meeting also discussed issues pertaining to the land disputes on Regi Lalma Model Town and Political Agent of Khyber Agency was directed to resolve the matter within a month.

The commissioner reviewed the progress on widening, rehabilitation and overhauling of Bara bypass, Pishtakhara Road, Jamrud Road and directed the authorities to complete these projects before the specified time period. He also issued directives for re-initiating the Green Peshawar projects.
