ISLAMABAD: The government has prepared a comprehensive plan to add 3,161 megawatts of electricity to the national grid by the end of December 2009 to overcome the power shortfall. The official said that out of the total planned generation in the next five months, 1,865MW electricity would be generated through independent power producers (IPPs) with the completion of power projects including Atlas (165MW), Atlas (225MW), Orient (225MW), Fopuji Marri (202MW), Nishat (200MW), Muridke (225MW), Sahiwan (225MW) and Engro (227MW) projects. He said four rental PEPCO power projects producing a total of 610MW would also be completed by the end of December. He said the country's power generation capacity would reach 18,000MW by the end of December, adding that by 2010, generation would further increase to 21,000MW.
