CDA to upgrade Islamabad’s water supply system - Naveed Yaseen - 06-20-2009 06:40 AM

The water supply system of Islamabad would be upgraded and rehabilitated by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) with the total cost of Rs11 billion.

The current water system of the federal capital is in poor condition resulting in wastage of around 50 percent water.

CDA (Water Management) Director General Sanaullah Aman said that the project is to be completed with cooperation of government and foreign donors through the Economic Affairs Division.

Talking to this agency, he said that old HDPE polyethylene pipes would be replaced under the project to be executed with a cost of Rs11 billion.

The smooth water supply to be maintained in new pipelines during 24 hours, he added.

Sanaullah Aman pointed out that the civic authority would send proposal of the project to Planning Commission after fulfilment of all requirements, adding the final permission would be given by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

“The project is expected to be initiated within a year,” he informed.

He said that CDA is in contact with a foreign firm for the completion of project according to international standard.

CDA director pointed out that after changing the water supply system, water meters would be placed outside of houses and the availability of water to be increased for 24 hours, instead of two hours in a day.
