ISLAMABAD: The government will spend Rs 231.4 million on the security of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Headquarters, Police Lines, Islamabad’s police stations and district and sessions courts, and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration’s offices during the next fiscal under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Sources said in its Thursday’s meeting, the National Economic Council (NEC) had approved Rs 3.53 million for improving security checks at the FIA Headquarters, which were vulnerable to terror strikes according to officials. They said the agency had decided to close roads passing in front and back of its headquarters to the traffic. The sources said the government had approved Rs 124.26 million for the construction of a boundary wall around the Police Lines in Islamabad. Of the amount, they said, Rs 62.12 million will be spent during fiscal 2009-10. The sources said the government had also approved Rs 72.5 million for a two-phase plan to beef up security of the capital’s police stations. According to them, under first phase valuing Rs 36 million, police will get Rs 18.5 million during 2009-10 and Rs 18 million during the following fiscal. Under the Rs 36 million second phase, they said, Rs 18 million will be spent during 2009-10 and the same amount in the next fiscal year. The sources said the NEC also approved Rs 31.12 million for the construction of a boundary wall around Islamabad’s district and sessions courts and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration’s offices at F-8 Markaz. Of the amount, Rs 16.12 million will be spent for the purpose during fiscal 2009-10, they said.
