KARACHI: Businessmen and industrialists have applauded the services of Abdullah Yousuf, the outgoing chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and hope that the new chairman would make tax payment more easy for taxpayers.

The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) expressed its deepest respect to the recently departed Chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in press release, and said that his contribution to FBR were tremendous.

During his tenure FBR has collected record revenue. When he took charge in 2004, the revenue collection was Rs518 billion that increased up to over Rs1,002 billion in 2007-08.

His unmatched professional qualities revamped the entire FBR and he introduced business friendly policies to facilitate the sales tax, customs and excise, income tax etc. like the introduction of Universal Tax Assessment Scheme, it said.

It added that he always supported the business community and worked selflessly for the betterment of industry in country. He was no doubt the best chairman that FBR ever had.

Abullah Yousuf, former chairman of FBR was a great man. His attitude was friendly with taxpayers and people were willing to pay tax under his business friendly policies. Now, businessmen expect more from the new Chairman of FBR and that he would bring further improvement and facilitate tax payers, said Muhammad Idrees Gigi, Chairman Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry.

“We have now more expectations with the new chairman of FBR. If he was sacked on a political decision then it is undesirable in any case,” he said. —FZ
