CDA to install lights at H-9 weekly bazaar

By Sohail Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to install lights at stalls of H-9 weekly bazaar, as people visit the bazaar till late in the evening, a senior official told Daily Times on Sunday.

He said the authority had discussed the installation of lights several times but now it had taken up the issue with the CDA Board seriously.

He said initially it was planned to open the bazaar from dawn to dusk but its popularity among the customers convinced the authority to keep it open till late in the evening.

He said the CDA had decided to install lights and fans at each stall. The Electrical and Mechanical Directorate of the civic body will carry out this assignment, he added.

“The bazaar comprised over 2,500 stalls, which require a proper management to run it and CDA was trying its best to efficiently manage the facility,” he added. However, he said the authority had yet to decide whether to install electricity metres or charge at flat rate.

He said the bazaar was gaining popularity due to its spacious pavements and planned stalls. “The bazaar is attracting thousands of people every week,” he added.

The official said earlier lights were installed on the pavements only and stalls were without proper lighting system, which created problems for visitors and stallholders.

When contacted, CDA Assistant Director Bazaar Chaudhry Afsar said the authority would soon materialise the plan of lights at the stalls of bazaar.
