Karachi: ‘DHA roads to be repaired by June’ - Naveed Yaseen - 01-25-2009 11:03 AM

Cogen Power and Desalination Plant to be operational in March
A number of major roads in DHA will be constructed and carpeted within two weeks, while the repair of all roads dug up to lay a new drainage system in the area will be completed by June, DHA Administrator Brig. Khalid Tirmizi has said.

Moreover, work on the Gizri flyover project has been progressing according to the amended design and will also be completed by June, he said. The DHA administrator was speaking at a reception hosted by the Defence Residents’ Society (DRS).

The DHA Cogen Power and Desalination Plant that had been out of order for the last three months would become operational by early March after damaged auxiliary parts of the plant are repaired and replaced.

Brig. Tirmizi further said that DHA was working out a security plan in collaboration with security agencies and by taking residentsí associations and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on boards. The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has also been directed to improve civic amenities such as sewerage, road repairs, streetlights, and sanitation and garbage collection in the area, the DHA administrator said.

City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil said that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) would enhance bulk water supply to the DHA after the completion of its K-IV water supply project. This would help the DHA to overcome water shortage in the area.

DRS President Zafar Iqbal highlighted the role of the residentsí associations in getting civic and utility issues resolved in the area.
