Islamabad: Landowners reject CDA package for H-16, I-17 - Naveed Yaseen - 01-19-2009 07:45 AM

ISLAMABAD: Landowners of sectors H-16 and I-17 have rejected an award package announced by Capital Development Authority (CDA) for acquisition of land and vowed to resist it until reasonable prices were paid to them.

A delegation, comprising landowners of the two sectors, on Sunday called on Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Babar Awan, who is also chairman of Steering Committee on Islamabad Development Package (SCIDP) constituted by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The delegation comprised Pir of Noon Sharif, Malik Rab Nawaz Noon, Shah Nazir, Malik Shahzad Noon, Malik Ghulam Safdar Noon, Malik Nazir Akhtar, Auliya Khan, Malik Tariq, Malik Zafar and Haji Alamgir.

They briefed the minister on tense situation in the area. They categorically rejected the CDA award package, saying the authority had not consulted them before announcing the award package. They vowed to resist the CDA award package and presented their demands and a resolution to the minister.

Dr Awan said the government would not let residents of the sectors be victim of injustice. He said the government would not allow the CDA to acquire the land illegally for these two sectors.

He assured the affected people that he would summon the CDA chairman and the Islamabad chief commissioner as the SCIDP chairman to sort out the matter. He advised them to exercise patience, as the government would protect their rights.

The minister accepted the delegation’s invitation to their areas. He said he would visit the sectors on January 25 and announce a special development projects for the area. app

The landowners of sectors H-16 and I- 17 have rejected the award package announced by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for acquisition of land and vowed to resist until they are paid reasonable prices.

A delegation, comprising landowners of the said two sectors, here Sunday called on Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan, who is also Chairman of Steering Committee on Islamabad Development Package constituted by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The delegation consisted of Pir of Noon Sharif, Malik Rab Nawaz Noon, Shah Nazir, Malik Shahzada Noon, Malik Ghulam Safdar Noon, Malik Nazir Akhtar, Auliya Khan, Malik Tariq, Malik Zafar and Haji Alamgir.

They briefed the minister about the tense situation in the area and categorically rejected the CDA’s award package saying CDA did not even bother to consult the landowners prior to announcing the award.

They vowed to resist the single-sided decision of the CDA and also presented their demands and a resolution to the minister alleging that the decision was aimed at pleasing some individuals.

To this, the minister said that government would never allow any injustice with common man and would not allow CDA to illegally acquire the lands of these two sectors.

He assured the affected people that being the chairman of the steering committee, he would summon the CDA chairman and chief commissioner Islamabad to sort out the matter, advising the residents to exercise patience as the government would never let their rights be grabbed.

On the invitation of the affected people, the minister would also visit the area on January 25, and would also announce special development projects for the area.

Later, Dr. Babar Awan also handed over the forms of Benazir Income Support Programme to the delegation members for their onward distribution among the poor people of the area.
