CDA Proposes New Dam Project to Meet Islamabad Water Demand

ISLAMABAD: To address the growing demand for clean water in the federal capital, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has partnered with the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) to plan the construction of a new dam upstream of Khanpur Dam, named 'Dotara Dam.' This proposed dam will be an impressive 122 meters in height and 350 meters in length.

The construction of the Dotara Dam is expected to commence following a pre-feasibility study. The CDA will cover the cost of this initial study, amounting to approximately Rs20 million. This project aims to provide an essential water supply for Islamabad and holds immense potential. It will have the capacity to store 0.1 million MAF (million-acre feet) of water, supplying 72 million gallons per day (MGD) while generating 10MW of hydropower.

The CDA's presentation to Wapda conveyed that this project offers a unique solution to Islamabad's water shortage and emphasized that "fetching water through gravity would be the most unique project" in the city's history.
