Garments industrial zone renamed Punjab Apparel Park - CMY - 01-16-2014 09:11 AM

LAHORE

PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has given an approval to change the name of the garments industrial zone as “Punjab Apparel Park” whereas a Board of Management has also been constituted for running the affairs of the park.

Renowned industrialist Muhammad Ahsan will be the Board of Management chairman. According to a handout issued on Saturday, it was decided at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Provincial Ministers Tanvir Aslam, Muhammad Shafique, Advisor Dr. Ijaz Nabi, MPA Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Senior Member, Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning and Development, concerned secretaries, senior officials of PIEDMC and industrialists associated with the garments industry attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that all persons in the Board of Management have been taken from the private sector. He said the Punjab Apparel Park will be set up on 1500 acres land and an amount of Rs.2.5 billion have been released for acquiring the land. He said that 1170 plots of different size will be established at the Punjab Apparel Park. The Chief Minister said that a hospital, vocational training institute, playgrounds and other necessary facilities will also be ensured in the park. He said that a modern treatment plant will be installed at the Punjab Apparel Park. He said that 12 acres land has been allocated for the skill development centre. He said that special transport will be provided for pick and drop of the labourers, and all the system of the transport will be outsourced.

He said that a labour colony will also be established at the Punjab Apparel Park. Shahbaz Sharif said that initially a power plant of 25 megawatt will be set up for providing uninterrupted electricity to the industries. He said that quality construction of sewerage, water supply, drainage and roads in the park will be ensured. He said that a modern hall will also be constructed there for the exhibition of products. The Chief Minister said that the project of Punjab Apparel Park will prove to be helpful in accelerating the process of industrialisation in the province where investment of billions of rupees will be made. He said that not only new job opportunities will be created due to Punjab Apparel Park but exports of the garments will also increase substantially.
