LDA to install 136,000 LED lights on city roads

LAHORE: Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has launched a project to install 136,000 Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights on all city roads of the provincial capital with an aim to save energy. The Punjab government has approved the project under which all existing sodium lights would be replaced with LED lights through-public private partnership and in the second phase, the system would be switch to solar technology. TEPA has sought proposals for transaction advisory services on the mega project to save energy. International tenders would be invited soon after appointment of financial advisory services for the project and investors would be given incentives to make the project successful. TEPA Chief Engineer Saeed Akhtar told APP that data had been compiled and proposals would be invited from the private sector through advertisement in the press. He added that lights on all roads under the control of LDA, City District Government Lahore (CDGL), Ring Road Authority, Metro Bus Authority and towns would be switched to solar energy in phases. The chief engineer said main financer would be the private investor and every bid would be approved after evaluating it under government’s policy. LDA and CDGL have already installed LED solar lights at Khayaban-e-Jinnah from the Johar Town main boulevard towards Raiwind Road, a part of The Mall as pilot projects in the provincial capital
