Rawal Town roads to be renovated - Salman - 12-15-2012 05:20 PM
RAWALPINDI, Dec 14: The Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) will renovate five main roads of the city with an estimated cost of Rs22.34 million.
Talking to Dawn, Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa said that the civic body would bear the expenses from its own budget under annual development programme for 2012-2013.
He said that the 4th-B Road from Chandani Chowk to Saidpur Road would be expanded from 18 feet to 40 feet costing Rs12.34 million. He said that encroachment along
the roads would be removed.
The motor mechanics had established their setups along the road which not only created problem for smooth flow of traffic but also generated noise pollution.
Commercial activities in the residential areas are prohibited by the town administration.
“We will remove all the encroachments and illegal activities along the roads,” Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa said.
He said median of the road would have greenery. “Apart from this, the Rawal Town Municipal Administration will also start beautification scheme for four main roads of the city,” he said.
He said that Rawal Road, 5th B Road, Saidpur Road and 6th Road would also be made beautiful and would turn into model roads.
“The squares of these roads will be widened and freed of encroachment. The roads will have road furniture, road dividers, greenery, footpaths, reflective signage and less pollution,” he said.
He said the huge amount has been spent on rehabilitation and widening of roads in Rawal Town.
The town administrator said that he had directed the RTMA staff to start development activities including removal of encroachments, maintenance of green belts, removal of wall chalking and panaflex, removal of under construction material, painting of medians, installation of standard signage and proper functioning of street lights and covering of manholes.
