CDA assures eviction of Sector

I-11/1 slum dwellers in 3 months

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Friday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to ensure the evacuation of slums in Sector I-11/1 within three months.
Committee Chairman Dewan Ishaq Hussain Bukhari presided over the meeting, held in the Parliament House. The committee also directed CDA Chairman Farkhand Iqbal to complete the ongoing developmental projects in new sectors as soon as possible.
The CDA chairman told the meeting that Sector G-12 was awarded in 1985 while the local residents had refused to vacate the area and rejected the compensation offered to them, adding that the CDA had preserved the claims of 1,275 people.
With the approval of the PM and the cabinet, the CDA had made amendment in its by-laws to allot residential plots to local residents, he said, adding that the previous by-laws refrained the authority from public-private partnership.
He informed the meeting that the CDA had recovered 10,000 of the 30,000 kanals of land from encroachers under the direction of the Supreme Court, while the remaining land would be recovered soon.
He said that the Interior Ministry and the district administration had taken the Afghan Refugee Commission onboard to get the slums in Sector I-11/1 evacuated.
He requested the committee that the dwellers be permitted to live in their houses until an alternative solution was finalised. On this, the committee directed the CDA chairman to submit the report on the matter within three months.
Iqbal told the committee that the land that was given to the expressway, belonged to the CDA, not Bahria Town, and that the investment for construction of the road must be made by the town administration.
He said that all residential plots of the Park Enclave had been sold out, while only a few plots of Bahria Enclave were sold.
Due to the paucity of funds, the construction work of CDA’s flats in Sector I-15 was yet to be completed, he added
