Establishment of Three Multi-Modal Bus Terminals in Lahore, Punjab

Lahore the capital of Punjab and the second largest city in Pakistan; consist of population of about 9 million. Lahore city covers a total land area of 404 km and still growing. More than three million of people have come to Lahore from other parts of the country primarily to earn livelihood. There are only two places where long distances buses operate: the main bus stands and the Sherakot bus stands. Although all services depart and swarming with people. People leave Lahore for their hometowns to meet their families have to wait for hours at the existing inter-city bus terminals. Bus Transport is the major mode contributing towards fulfilling the need of intercity bus traffic for Lahore. The Government of Punjab desires to improve the overall intra-city and intercity Transport operations to and from Lahore. Keeping in view the debilitating situation of Intra City & Inter City Public Transport System for Lahore; Transport Department in collaboration with the CDGL intends to establish Multimodal Intercity Bus Terminals (MBIT) on G.T Road ,Ferozpur Road ,and Multan Road , & on Public Private Partnerships (PPP) basis. The new terminals will be designed to facilitate intercity passengers through the provision of modern facilities matching international standards. The proposed MBIT will be well connected with the Bus Rapid Transit System, Intra-City Public Transport System, and Railway with proper roadway links to the Allama Iqbal International Airport via the Lahore Ring Road, specifically aiming to reduce travel time in the city & discomfort to the intercity passengers. The project will be implementing on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis. Approximate cost of this project is Rs. 5.020 Billion.
