Mini dams being constructed to boost agriculture in capital

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chief Commissioner Tariq Mahmood Pirzada on Sunday reviewed the progress of ongoing agriculture projects in rural areas of the federal capital and directed the officials concerned to expedite work on these projects for their timely completion.

The meeting was informed that the directorate of agriculture had launched many projects for boosting agriculture in rural areas, under which watercourses and mini dams have been constructed for storage of rainwater and irrigation for crops.

Modern agricultural demonstration plants had been developed at various sites in the rural areas and training courses for farmers were underway for imparting and introducing modern methods of agriculture techniques to them.

It was informed that the Fisheries Department had also comprehensive arrangements for fish seeds stoking in the dams and promoting the production of fish at a large scale for meeting the protein demands of consumers.

The Livestock Department was also holding free veterinary medical camps in remote rural areas on daily basis, and providing free treatment and vaccination of livestock against seasonal diseases was carried out successfully.

Besides this, the services and treatment facilities at veterinary hospitals in rural areas were also being upgraded.

The chief commissioner directed the officials to provide maximum facilities to farmers in rural areas for boosting agriculture and particularly, the production of meat and milk be increased to meet the needs of local consumers in a befitting manner.

He also reviewed the progress of industries and labour welfare departments, and directed the officials to further improve their service delivery systems and ensure the implementation of relevant laws in letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, Tariq Mahmood Pirzada visited the under-construction shrine of Hazrat Bari Imam Complex at Noor Pur Shahan and reviewed the ongoing progress of work at the site.

Development/Finance Director Rana Akbar Hayat, Auqaf Deputy Director Malik Afsar Khan, Project Director Ayaz Khan and the contractor of the project were also present on the occasion.

The chief commissioner directed the project director and contractor to expedite work on the project and ensure its speedy completion without further delay.
