NHA awards M-9 project's contract to Malaysian firm - Lahore_Real_Estate - 01-27-2012 12:32 PM

ISLAMABAD - National Highway Authority (NHA) has awarded contract of the construction project of Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9), which will cost Rs 25 billion, to a Malaysian construction firm Bena Puri Holding.

This was informed by Chairman NHA Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi at Executive Board meeting. The chairman told the board that two companies had given their proposals for the construction of M-9 project. He said NHA has received another Rs 3 billion out of PSDP allocations and it is satisfying that NHA has cleared all the liabilities of the contractors. NHA is also striving to complete liabilities of Maintenance Projects particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, which have decreased remarkably, he added. He said this would help improve condition of roads in the coming days.

The Executive Board also accorded approval for award of work to M/S SKB for construction of Syedwala Bridge over River Ravi. The bridge will cost over Rs 892 million. The board approved construction of 8 km 6-Lane Road from Double Phattak to Nag Shah Chowk in Multan as per new design. The project will be completed at an approximate cost of Rs 4.5 billion.

This road will provide link between Faisalabad-Multan Motorway (M-4) & G.T. Road. The board was told that work on roads damaged by earthquake is also in progress with the financial assistance of World Bank. In this regard 25-km road from Batgram to Thakot is completed while major portion of 44-km Basian-Balakot-Naran Road has also been completed. Likewise, work on Muzaffarabad Chakothi Road is also in progress. The meeting also accorded approval for obtaining consultancy services for flood emergency construction project in Northern parts of the country.
