ISLAMABAD – The proposed amendments in Islamabad Zoning Regulation will also benefit President Asif Ali Zardari besides others, as he (President) allegedly owns 307 acres of prime land in the area, The Nation has learnt reliably.
Capital Development Authority is all set to amend Zoning Regulation of 1992 chiefly to regularise haphazard constructions in Zone-III.
President Asif Ali Zardari was acquitted in a 1997 NAB reference regarding purchase of same prime land in Zone-III of Islamabad through a front man, namely Nasir Khan.
CDA Board, the other day, approved the recommendations of a three-member ministerial committee constituted by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani regarding amendments in ICT Zoning Regulation, meanwhile, the Authority also sent a summary to the Federal Cabinet for the final approval.
Interestingly, the landowners holding 1,500 kanals of land in the area would be benefited after final approval of the summary to start a housing scheme in the area.
Chairman CDA said amendments were being made in order to regularise the haphazard construction in Zone-III area, however, he said such amendments would be made in area that did not fall in National Park.
A private company, allegedly owned by President Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, possesses 307 acres of this prime land located in the same zone III. It is believed that the value of this land would be in billions if summary got final approval from the Federal Cabinet.
A Karachi based company, jointly owned by the President and his son and a few others, purchased almost 2,500 kanals of land near Sangjani in March 2009 from one Faisal Sakhi Butt, sources informed.
Butt is considered a front man of President Zardari and is also a member of the dubious Islamabad Development Committee contrary to the fact that CDA itself is a development authority.
Faisal Sakhi Butt purchased the said land from a Pakistani American Muhammad Nasir Khan living in Houston (US) at merely Rs 62 million, same price on which the latter purchased this land back in 1994.
Nasir was the original purchaser of this land back in 1994 and was declared to be the front man of Zardari in the Ehtesab Bureau Reference filed against him in 1997.
