PM announces uniform education system in capital - Lahore_Real_Estate - 11-09-2010 05:36 PM

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday instead of making any formal announcement for much awaited upgradation of teachers grade in Islamabad only gave a hope to them saying that he was agreed in principle to the proposal for upgrading posts of teachers working under the Federal Directorate of Education.
“I would like the Ministry of Education accordingly to work out details in consultation with the Ministry of Finance,” he said this while addressing launching ceremony of ‘Uniformity of Education Systems and Upgradation of Teachers in Islamabad Capital Territory’ at the Convention Centre.
The prime minister on this occasion announced that all educational institutions of Islamabad Capital Territory would be named and administered as Islamabad model schools/colleges.
Earlier, the function was scheduled to be held on ‘Teachers Day’ last month in which the prime minister was to make the announcement in this regard but the function was postponed, as the Ministry of Finance did not agree to the proposal of the Ministry of Education in this regard due to poor economic situation in the country.
The prime minister also agreed to a demand for enhancing the ‘charge allowance of the heads/principals of institutions in Islamabad Capital Territory, for which details may be finalised with the Ministry of Finance.
He said the Ministry of Education in collaboration with CDA and ICT should arrange for the transport facilities for the students and teachers especially in the rural areas.
The prime minister said the Ministry of Education should consider establishment of Federation Public School in Islamabad as well as a Model University to cater to the affiliation needs of ICT’s graduate and postgraduate colleges, which are presently affiliated with University of Punjab, Lahore.
PM Gilani said the Pakistan People’s Party after assuming the responsibilities of the country has been endeavouring to reduce differences between the rich and the poor especially in the field of education. “We claim that the roots of the party are among the people of Pakistan and this is how we represent them at all national and international forums,” he added.
He said as a part of PPP policy, the privileges for the common man need to be raised to the level of the rich to eliminate discrimination in opportunities. “With this focus, it was only few months back when I directed the Ministry of Education and Federal Directorate of Education to take measures to prepare a Model Education System for the schools of the capital,” he added.
“I expect that the teachers would assume full responsibility of the future of students and turn them into productive and responsible citizens of the country. You have to dedicate all your efforts towards their physical, emotional, moral and intellectual grooming,” he said.
The prime minister said every child possesses a spark of talent and it is the teacher who discovers and polishes it. “My vision of quality education rests on the shoulders of teachers. While I would continue to extend my support to improve the state of education, I look forward towards the teachers to fulfil their responsibilities,” he added.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali said the government aims to bring the Madrassas in streamline and in this regard the talks were going on with Wafaq-ul-Madaris. He said the talks were on positive path, as Wafaq-ul-Madaris also wants students of Madrassas to be on a par with the students of the other institutions.
He said these Madrassas would not support terrorism and suicide attacks and denounce all these acts.
