* Orders 36 district revenue officers to take immediate action

* Directs revenue dept to end irregularities in fee collection

LAHORE: Public Accounts Committee-I (PAC-I) of the provincial assembly, taking serious notice of illegal construction of shops on government lands, has directed the revenue department either to regularise the illegal possessions or to destroy all the illegal buildings within the next 60 days.

The PAC-I meeting was held at the committee room in Punjab Assembly secretariat on Wednesday under the chairmanship of its head and opposition leader from Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Zaheeruddin. Members of the committee, included Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, Major ® Rana Abdur Rehman, Mohsin Lughari, Dr Mukhtar and Meher Ishtiaq participated in the meeting and reviewed the matter.

The meeting was informed that there were some complaints that some land mafia had constructed the commercial buildings like markets and shops on government lands across the province so it was the need of the hour that a serious action should be taken against the land grabbers.

PAC meeting, after taking decision, issued orders to all 36 district revenue officers of the province of Punjab that they should take notice of the matter and should make immediate efforts to free the government lands from the illegal possession holders who had made commercial buildings and shops on the spot.

After a long discussion, the meeting also decided to give some margin to the illegal possession holders of the government lands that they could continue there possession if they made payments of their illegal construction to the Revenue Department according to the public policy and if they failed to submit such payments then their illegal constructions should be destroyed.

Later, Zaheeruddin, while talking to reporters, informed that the committee had directed the Revenue Department to end the irregularities in the fee collection procedure of the department and should provide the complete record of the government lands in Punjab within next three months.
