Indian court orders case against Shoaib, Sania - Lahore_Real_Estate - 04-22-2010 11:45 AM

LAHORE: An Indian court has directed police to register a case against Shoaib Malik, Sania Mirza and 12 others for allegedly ‘insulting’ the sentiments of Muslims, a private TV channel reported on Wednesday.

On a complaint lodged by a local Muslim organisation, the additional chief metropolitan magistrate referred the matter to Banjara Hills Police station house officer (SHO), seeking an investigation report on the issue by May 26. Mazlumeen-e-Ummatay Muhammadiya chief Mohsin bin Hussain approached the court and named the Pakistani cricketer, his wife, Shoaib’s ex-wife Ayesha Siddiqui, Sania’s father Imran Mirza, former Indian cricketer Muhammad Azharuddin and two qazis among others for being ‘dishonest and playing’ with Muslim sentiments.

“Initially, Shoaib said he never married Ayesha, but later he divorced her. There is no official divorce, but the 14 accused people declared that divorce proceedings are over which led to great confusion amongst the public – particularly Muslims – and insulted their religious feelings,” Hussain alleged. He said the government appointed two qazis who misused their official position and registered a divorce between Shoaib and Ayesha, even when the documents provided to them by the Pakistani cricketer had two different names of Shoaib’s father, the channel said. daily times monitor
