MUZAFFARABAD, March 17: The AJK Legislative Assembly speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir Wednesday directed the government to place before the house record of the allotments of plots by the Mirpur Development Authority.

He gave the direction during the question hour in response to a demand by many members from both side of the divide.

Opposition’s Sardar Qamaruz Zaman called for placement of details of all allotments before the house “because one after the other scandal vis-à-vis allotments in the lakeside city was coming to the fore”.

The session was requisitioned by the combined opposition, hardly two weeks after an earlier session also convened by the opposition was prorogued sine die by the chair without holding debate on any of the items printed on the agenda.

Wednesday’s session was convened by the speaker at 3pm but it began nearly two hours beyond the scheduled time.

Public Accounts Committee Chairman Chaudhry Anwaarul Haq, who is also an opposition member, informed the house that the PAC had prepared a detailed report of around 800 pages on the issue of allotments which he said would shortly be presented in the house.

In response to another question about the purchase of new vehicles by the government, Minister for Finance Raja Nisar Ahmed denied any such plan “notwithstanding shortage of vehicles”.

He however told that a committee had been constituted by the government to determine the bear minimum requirement of vehicles.

Minister for Tourism and Sports Sardar Siab Khalid told the house that a committee had been established to reclaim the possession of Quaid-i-Azam Stadium in Mirpur from Pakistan Cricket Board.

The stadium would then be handed over to the AJK Sports Board, he added.

The house was later adjourned by the chair to meet again at 10am on Thursday.
