ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to construct new 16-storey apartments on the site of Margalla Towers that collapsed in the deadly October 8, 2005 earthquake. According to sources, CDA would construct the new tower with the collaboration of private sector and applications had been sought from private firms for this purpose. The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari. The meeting decided that the civic body would provide land while the private firm would bear the construction expenditures. The firm would be bound to give share to CDA from the revenue from apartments sale. The 16-storey new tower would cover an area of 2.4 acre and the construction firm would be responsible to demolish the current structure. The new tower would be completed in two years. online
