LAHORE

THE Lahore High Court on Friday constituted a committee to determine the legal status of a commercial plaza on the Sargodha Road, Sheikhupura, which the Highway authorities want to demolish, on the plea that it was illegally constructed and the demolition was necessary for the widening of the road.

Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who had already stayed the demolition of the plaza, directed the committee comprising the DDOR, the naib tehsildar, the patwari, the president and the secretary of the district bar association to visit the location and report to the court within three days whether or not the plaza was constructed legally. Petitioner Aftab Aslam, owner of Aftab Aslam Plaza, through his counsel Azhar Siddiq advocate, alleged that the plaza was being razed in violation of the court’s order at the behest of PML-N MNA Javed Latif.
