KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed the administrator of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to take steps for the security of the residents of Phase-I, DHA. A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, passed the direction on a petition filed by residents of DHA Phase-I, seeking strict security measures against criminals. Their counsel submitted that miscreants living in Mehmoodabad enter Phase-I to commit robberies in bungalows and harass the residents but no steps were being taken by the DHA administration against the criminals. He prayed to order DHA Administrator to install a gate on the entrance from Mehmoodabad to provide security to residents. Advocate Khalid Javed for DHA stated the court in another case had previously restrained the DHA Administration from installing such iron gates; however, steps could be taken subject to the order of court. The SHC division bench said in its order, “By consent, it is ordered that DHA will install a gate at entry-point from Mehmoodabad and other steps shall be made for the security of the residents of Phase-I, while the guards at the gate will be deployed at the expense of petitioners.” ppi
