LAHORE EXCISE and Taxation Director Akram Ashraf has said the Excise and Taxation Department Punjab has formulated a comprehensive plan to collect unpaid taxes on property after which the collected money would be spent on development work. The director was speaking at a press briefing at his office on Monday. He said Excise Department teams would themselves contact defaulters and request them to pay their dues. He said strict measures would be taken against tax defaulters from February 1, 2010. Defaulters would be heavily fined, arrested and their property could be confiscated if they fail to meet the deadline to pay taxes. He said all necessary statutory measures had been completed in this regard and the government of the Punjab had also given directions to the district administration and Police. He said the Punjab government had not removed the clause of tax exemption for property owner of five marla house even during the ongoing financial crisis.
