Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party Mir Baz Khan Khetran Wednesday said that only Asif Ali Zardari is capable of pulling Pakistan out of political morass.

“It was third time that the PPP got power after long rules of martial law in the country. First time Zulfikar Ali Bhutto came to power after throwing out General Yahyha Khan, then Benazir Bhutto came to power after the long dark rule of General Ziaul Haq and now it got the reins of power after the long misrule of General Musharraf,” he said while addressing a press conference here.

Khetran, who is vice president of PPP Parliamentarians, said that only a president backed by national consensus could serve the cause of the federation as well as strengthen a parliamentary institution. “Asif Ali Zardari is the consensus candidate for the post of President and has a strong backing of all political forces in the country,” he added.

Khetran said the PPP has been mandated by the people to run the government and solve their problems, and it is our responsibility to fulfil our obligations towards our constituencies. The nation is eagerly waiting for September 6. He said the country needs a president that has roots in all provinces.
