ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to impose heavy fines on the residents wasting water in the federal capital.

The decision was taken in an emergency meeting presided over by CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi at CDA Headquarters to review the situation arose due to shortage of water and measures to conserve water during current crisis situation.

Elahi said those involved in wastage of water would be served on two notices first instance and in case of noncompliance, the violators would be fined by the Special Magistrate of CDA.

The CDA officials briefed the chairman about different water sources and reservoirs and the measures being taken to minimise the impact of the crisis.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman said due to dry weather conditions there was a substantial decrease in the availability of water in the water reservoirs.

He said CDA was making all out efforts to ensure provision of water to the residents. He called upon the residents of Islamabad to cooperate with CDA in conserving water so that availability of water could be ensured till the dry weather spell was over and rains replenish the reservoirs.

He said the residents should not only use the water in efficient manner but also conserve it to cope with this crisis. He said the residents should be careful while washing cars and porches, watering the lawns. He said use of tab water in proper manner in the kitchens and washrooms could conserve a fair quantity of water with little effort.

He said the efforts of the CDA could not be fruitful without the cooperation of the residents.

Task Force: The officials told the chairman that during the campaign launched by the Special Task Force of Directorate of Sanitation to take action against those involved in wastage of water, 886 residents were issued notices whereas 84 were challaned during current month.

Elahi urged the residents to cooperate with the CDA in conserving water and also pray to God for early rains for an end to this crisis.

He also directed the quarters concerned to make the water conservation campaign more effective by involving media and using all other means of communication. app
