ISLAMABAD: The parking problem in city is aggravating with every passing day, as Capital Development Authority (CDA) so far has failed to materialise its plan to construct parking plazas in Blue Area. After receiving a number of complaints regarding the parking problem in Blue Area, some three years ago the CDA Planning Wing had prepared a plan to overcome this issue, but so far the authority has failed to construct the parking plazas, a senior official of CDA told Daily Times on Thursday. According to the plan the authority had to construct parking plazas in different phases, he said. In the first phase, they had to construct three parking plazas in different parts of Blue Area, he added. The proposed sites for the construction of parking plazas included one near Muslim Commercial Bank, another near Savour Food and third near the Masque located on some distance from the Savour Food, said the official. The official said due to the shortage of proper parking places in Blue Area, people often parked their vehicles on the roadsides causing traffic jam and accidents, he added. The official said the citizens were complaining about their hardships as they were not only facing parking problem in Blue Area but also in other parts of the city including Aabpara, Karachi Company, Supper, Jinnah Supper. Another official said the lack of proper car parking system was one of the main reasons for rising car-lifting incidents in big markets in the city. If CDA constructs proper parking places in the big markets it would be easy for the security agencies to control car lifting, he said. He said according to CDA laws every builder was bound to construct adequate car parking in commercial buildings. “According to the law CDA is authorised to take action against those builders who failed to provide adequate parking place for the vehicles,” he added. However, he said so far CDA had failed to implement its slaws.
