LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called for improving the efficiency of the Punjab Emergency Service on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the chief minister was chairing a meeting of the Punjab Emergency Council at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. He directed them to constitute a committee headed by the Punjab chief secretary to submit recommendations for improving the efficiency of the Punjab Emergency Service. Shahbaz appreciated the performance of the emergency service and also lauded the services of Punjab Emergency Service Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer. He said the province needs departments such as Rescue 1122 to provide emergency relief to the people. The chief minister also approved the draft of the proposed Fire Act.

Dr Naseer said the establishment of district emergency boards on instructions of the chief minister has yielded positive results and in the second phase, the scope of the service will be extended to 12 districts by February this year.

Meeting: Separately, the chief minister chaired a meeting, which reviewed the development projects taking place in Lahore. He directed a comprehensive system should be evolved for the implementation of development projects on fast track basis. He ordered the implementation of an effective strategy for execution of mega projects of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). He directed the Lahore Ring Road Project should be completed as soon as possible. He ordered plantation of trees along the Ring Road, so that pollution can be controlled. staff report/app
