DEMOLITION work on 12 high-rises in the provincial capital continued on Sunday while the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) finalised its plan for starting demolition of more buildings on the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

LDA officials said that demolition of three floors of eight-storey Inam Complex at 58 Garden Block, Garden Town, was started on December 06, 2009 and so far its one and a half floors were demolished. On the same day, demolition of two extra floors of Rabi Center in Gulberg was started and 60 per cent work had so far been completed.

Officials said 20 per cent demolition work of Rehman Medical Center, which was constructed on the land of Kachi Abadi, was completed. They said the medical complex was situated in densely populated area due to which the demolition work was slow.

About the demolition work going on at Ahad Tower at Kalima Chowk, LDA officials said five upper floors of this tower are constructed illegally and so far one of the floors was demolished. They said work on its second floor was going on. Officials added that 25 per cent demolition work on Big City Tower in Gulberg was completed and LDA was using heavy machinery for the purpose.

Officials further added that 40 per cent demolition work on Jeff Heights was completed.

Ceilings of both the extra floors of this tower were razed and LDA was using heavy machinery for removal of debris and steel structures.

On Model Town Link Road, demolition work on three plazas was initiated on December 20, 2009 and so far 70 per cent demolition work was completed.

In PIA Society, the LDA started demolishing four plazas and so far 50 per cent work had been completed.
