A division bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC), comprising Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Tufail H Ebrahim on Friday further extended the stay, granted earlier till January 13, 2010, against the opening of the Gizri flyover.

Residents of Khayaban-e-Hafiz, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), challenged the alleged violation of environmental laws committed in construction of Gizri flyover in Phase-V - starting from Submarine Chowrangi to Khayaban-e-Tanzeem - in violation of orders passed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), SHC and Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).

On Friday, Advocate Khalid Javed for DHA submitted that the remaining work on the flyover was being carried out and the flyover will be ready for inauguration by January 6, 2010.

The petitioners counsel Kamal Azfar stated that he was on a general adjournment and has to travel abroad.

The SHC division bench adjourned the hearing till January 13, 2010 and ordered the flyover must not be opened till the next date of hearing.
