LAHORE

THE Lahore Development Authority on Saturday pre-qualified 18 private firms, accelerating its ongoing drive against illegally constructed commercial plazas as well as for removing alterations made in such premises in violation of the approved building plans.

The spokesman of the LDA said a labour force of more than 300 employees had been carrying out round-the-clock demolition launched by the LDA since December 6. The LDA has urged builders and owners of commercial plazas, whose buildings or parts of their buildings are to be demolished to removing all installations from the area and make necessary arrangement for safety of other equipments. It has further asked them for making alternate arrangements for water supply in case water tanks also fall in the area under demolition.

The builders have also been asked for making arrangements for removal of waste and salvaged material at their own cost, especially, the steel (reinforcement bars), windows, doors, pipes, electric fittings. Failing this, the LDA would not be held responsible for any loss/misplacement at any subsequent stage. It has further been clarified that demolition would not be stopped on this pretext. The LDA maintained that practical assistance at the part of builders would help early execution of demolition. The authority has advised the builders to remove all such material/equipment within three days.
