ISLAMABAD: Yamaha, a leading Japanese company has prepared a plan to make an investment of $150 million in motorcycle manufacturing on a large-scale in Pakistan.

Sources in the Ministry of Industries said that President of Yamaha, Takashi Kajikawa stated this in a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Noor Mohammad Jadmani at the company’s headquarters at Hamamatsu (Japan).

President Takashi during the meeting said that the plant would be established in National Industrial Park at Bin Qasim, Karachi.

Giving salient features of the project, Takashi informed that his company in the first phase would assemble around 22,000 motorcycles by 2012 after that it would manufacture the motorcycles by using various domestically manufactured parts in Pakistan.

In the final phase, he said his company would start manufacturing motorcycle engines in Pakistan by 2017.

The plant, he said would provide job opportunities to about 25,000 Pakistani engineers, technicians and laborers.

The company has already submitted its proposals to the board of Investment in Islamabad, he noted.—APP
