ISLAMABAD: The country’s biggest zoological garden being established by Capital Development Authority (CDA) will be a landmark initiative in extending recreational facilities to the people of federal capital. Construction work on the project will be completed with a total cost of Rs 1400 million, a spokesperson of the CDA has told APP.
In the first phase, two enclosures for ‘Black Bug’ and ‘Chinkara’ are being constructed at a cost of Rs 19.37 million to provide comfortable and natural environment to the animals. The first phase will be completed within two months. However, the authority will soon announce tender for the second phase and work on construction of ten more enclosures for birds and animals will start soon with a cost of Rs 140 million and will be completed in 18 months. Pathways for visitors will be constructed along with the service road.
A comprehensive water and sewerage system will be devised to maintain cleanliness in the zoo. Different species of birds and animals will be imported from various countries that will be a source of attraction for the citizens. The animals will be provided natural environment.
In the third phase, which is planned to be initiated next year, a veterinary hospital and a laboratory for provision of healthcare facilities to these animals and birds will also be established. The spokesperson said computerised ticketing system would be introduced at the main entrance. The construction of souvenir shop and restaurants would also be part of the plan, he said.
The recreational facility will be expanded to 80 acres of land from existing 20 acres and work is being done in line with the standards laid down by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
Meanwhile, the Water Supply Directorate of Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to auction 12 out of order tankers and replace its fleet with new tankers.
The last date for submission of applications for taking part in the auction is November 17. According to details, CDA has 30 tankers, which are providing water supply service and the authority has also allowed private tankers to sell water. These private tankers charge double rate than CDA. agencies
