The Capital Development Authority (CDA) would hire consultants for designing underpasses and interchanges in three major road projects in the federal capital.

The CDA Development Working Party during a recent meeting held at authority’s headquarters, approved PC-2 of nearly one dozen underpasses and as many interchanges to be constructed on 6th Avenue, 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue.

The meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari allowed hiring of consultants who would prepare designs and PC-1 of these mega projects.

A CDA official told ‘The News’ that it would take at least months to finalize designs and getting approval of estimated cost of underpasses and interchanges. Each avenue would have four underpasses and four major interchanges for signal-free movement of traffic.

The 6th Avenue starting from Khyaban-e-Suharwardy would end at Khyaban-e-Iqbal (Margalla Road) and its total length would be nearly four kilometres.

The 10th Avenue would start from I J Principal Road near New Katarian Bridge and would end at Khyaban-e-Iqbal after passing between Sectors G-9/G-10 and Sectors F-9/F-10. This road would reduce the distance and travel time between Rawalpindi’s Satellite Town, Khyaban-e-Sir Syed, other localities and various sectors of Islamabad including G-9, G-10 and G-11. Using this avenue a motorists would be able to reach these sectors from I J Principal Road in a 10-minute time instead taking a round from 9th Avenue or using route of H-11 near Police Headquarters.

The 11th Avenue would also provide a beneficial route starting from I J Principal Road and culminating at Khayaban-e-Iqbal.

The CDA sources said the authority would not be able to start work on these projects before the next financial year. These avenues would be completed along with underpasses and interchanges.
